In loving memory of Olga Kysym, who passed away after her short but courageous battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington Ontario, in her 77th year. Beloved wife of the late Mykola Kysym (d. 2015). Cherished mother of Christina Kysym (Alexander Barszczyk) and Andrew Kysym (Ketrin). She was the best Baba to Amy (her birthday twin) and baby Julia. Beloved sister of Nick Tschekalin (Arlene), Walter Tschekalin (Helen), Millie Valenius (Kimmo), John Tschekalin, and Katrina Tschekalin (Robert Patry). Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Olga is predeceased by: her beloved parents Maria (nee Wasylenko) and Michael Tschekalin Sr.; siblings Lawrence Tschekalin (Helen), Helen Krywiak, Michael Tschekalin Jr.; and dear brothers-in-law Mychajlo Kysym and Alexander Kysym.

Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1945 in Lindau Germany, Olga immigrated to Canada with her family and settled in Sudbury, Ontario. She moved to Toronto at the age of 19 to pursue a career in the big city. She landed a job as a legal secretary for the Bank of Montreal (BMO) where she worked in the Corporate Law Department for over 25 years. Olga worked hard, established herself, and took great pride in all of her accomplishments.

Olga enjoyed travelling to sunny destinations, was an avid gardener, amazing cook, and loved to fish. She was well liked by everyone she met.

Her daughter Christina would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the Malignant Hematology staff and Oncology team at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, especially her attending physician Dr. Marta Beata Davidson, (and Dr. Tracey Murphy) for Olga’s treatment and specialized care. Thank you for always advocating for her. A special thanks also goes out to her Palliative Care team as well as all of the dedicated volunteers at the Carpenter Hospice. You made Olga’s end of life journey that much easier for our family.
