March 30, 1930 -  September 6, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved and cherished father and grandfather, Olexey Sahaydakivsky on September 6, 2024 at the age of 94. Predeceased by his loving parents, Vera and Vitaly, his brothers Eugene and Mykola, he is now reunited with his true love, his wife, Svenyslava (nee Izio) who passed away in 2007. He will be loved and remembered by his devoted son, Roman, treasured daughter in law Diane and adoring grandsons Markus and Konrad. A displaced person of World War II, Olexey and his family came to Canada in 1948 and settled in West Toronto, Parkdale region. As a young man, Olexey along with his brothers first worked on the CP Rail lines and then the building of the Toronto Transit subway lines. In 1958, Olexey graduated from the University of Toronto, St. George campus with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. From there he spent the next 35 years working as a Social Worker for the Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services at the Vanier Correctional Centre for women. Throughout his entire life, Olexey always distinguished himself as a very proud Ukrainian and led a very active and productive life in the Ukrainian community.
