In Celebration of

Odete Candeias

January 31, 1931 -  October 22, 2023

Odete passed away peacefully at the age of 92 surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Trillium Health Partners – Mississauga Hospital.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Agostinho (2007), her parents João and Teresa Mendes, her brother Valdemar, and her sister Alice. Odete will be deeply missed by her daughter Filomena, son-in-law Joe, grandchildren Jason (Robyn), Giselle (Adam) and great-grand-children Theo, Simon, Camille, and Gabriel.

Odete, an energetic and determined woman, embraced life in Canada and was grateful to live in such a great country. Her work ethic allowed her to find a job that she loved and was very proud of. But her true pride and joy was her home and family. She loved to share stories about her family and told them all the time, to anyone who would listen.

A true Terceirence, vibrant, social and generous with compliments, Odete befriended everyone she met. She cherished her daily lunches with her friends at Caldense bakery where book exchanges, plenty of conversation and a good laugh were always on the menu. Odete was an avid reader and later developed a love for colouring but nothing trumped her joy of cooking, caring for her family and a well assembled outfit.

Friends and family will be received for a visitation at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W), on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 6-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church at 921 Flagship Dr., Mississauga on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11 am.

Interment at Assumption Cemetery.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation.

Online condolences may be made through this website.

Dear Filomena and family

On behalf and me and my brothers & sister accept our condolences at this sad time.
We have a cache of stories & memories in our minds of all the times we spent together both
here and in Terceira so many years ago.

Odette lived a long life and was beloved by you all. What luck!
May she rest in peace.

Senhora Odete was a very special person. She was generous with her kindness and compliments. She had a wonderful sense of humour, which transpired into her storytelling. She genuinely cared about us, made us feel special and her positivity was infectious. She showed it very time we saw her. We’ll miss you ❤️.
