On June 6, 2024, our much adored mother, Norma Estelle (n.Tash) left us to join our father Donald George McFadden (d. 1989) and loving stepfather William (Bill) Pearce (d. 2005). She will be missed by her surviving sister Bette Barrett Esch, by her children Doug (Nancy), David (Deb), Marilyn (Rick Stern) and Wayne (Nancy), and by her stepdaughters: Deb McCombe and Marnie Redmond. She leaves a legacy of ten loving grandchildren: Mike, Erin, D’arci, Will, Liz, Lisa, Dan, Laura, Alison and Andrew and two step-grandchildren: Will and Rob and their partners. She also leaves seven great grandchildren: Emma, James, Maddie, Lauren, Brenna, Iain and Neve, and two step-great grandchildren: Alana and Patrick.
Norma was born July 15, 1926 in Toronto but lived in Montreal until she was a teenager. After graduating from Etobicoke Collegiate, she studied at the Ontario School of Art and then went to work in Display for Eatons. She met our father on the Jane Street bus heading to work. After marrying Don in 1950, she raised four children while keeping two homes. She loved to Skidoo and cross country ski at the family “farm” in Markdale, Ontario where she was the queen of “Happy Hour.” She passed this skill onto all her children. Norma was a true friend to many; all will miss her infectious laugh. She loved to play bridge, could take on the best at cribbage and continued to be a crossword master well into her 90s. After the loss of our Dad, Mom was fortunate to find love again with the captain of her ECI high school football team Bill Pearce. Mom and Bill had twelve great years together and travelled the world.
A special thanks to the 5th floor staff at Parkland on Eglinton and to Dr. Hamrahi who is connected with The Dorothy Ley Hospice for their above and beyond compassionate care. A private family service will take place. Donations can be made to The Dorothy Ley Hospice.
