In Celebration of

Nicoli (Nickolas / Nick) Chrapko

April 4, 1928 -  February 25, 2024

Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Nickolas (Nick) Chrapko on February 25, 2024 in his 96th year. Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Olga, in September 2022. Nick leaves behind two daughters, Cathy Kent (David Rive) and Nancy Findlay (Dale), 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his 11 siblings and son-in-law Duane Kent.

Born in Shalka, Alberta in 1928, as a young man Nick moved to Toronto, ON with a group of like-minded farm boys who referred to themselves as “The Alberta Boys”. It is in Toronto that he met his wife Olga and they raised their two daughters. Never returning to live in Alberta, he would often go back to the farm to help at harvest; he loved the outdoors and physical work.

Nick was a firm believer in living life to its fullest. He was able to find that balance between working hard and enjoying the many hobbies and activities he cherished. For 30 years Nick worked for the Ministry of Transportation as an Inspector. He was committed to his job even when it required him to live away from his family for several years, faithfully returning home every weekend to be with his family.

Holidays, weekends and evenings were never a time for rest. Nick would always have something on the go. From designing and building a garage in order to rebuild a classic car, he never walked away from a good challenge. He was a self-taught plumber, electrician, mechanic, roofer, mason; if it needed to be done, Nick would do it! Yet he’d still find time to hunt, fish, snowmobile, garden and spend time with his family and friends. At the age of 90, Nick could be found inspecting the roof at the cottage, taking his wife and great-grandsons fishing or chopping and piling wood for the fireplace. One of his favorite sayings was “there’s lots of time to sleep when I’m dead” although he did cherish his afternoon naps!

They just don't make them like Nick anymore; he was truly one of a kind. Nick will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved him.

A visitation and service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Turner & Porter, Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Red Cross – Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Appeal would be appreciated.
