In Celebration of

Nelson Fernandes

February 1, 1931 -  February 21, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nelson Inacio Fernandes on February 21, 2025, at 8:15 pm. He passed away peacefully at Wellbrook Place, in Mississauga, with his beloved wife, Hilda, by his side.

Born on February 1, 1931, in Nagpur, India, to loving parents, Aleixo Cursino do Rosario Fernandes and Maria Evelina Beatriz de Melo. Brother to Gilbert and Rudy. Nelson was a gifted musician, he had an extraordinary ability to play any song instantly, simply by hearing a few hummed notes. His piano melodies filled every room with joy, and his presence was the heart of every gathering—he had a way of catching everyone’s heart (and ears) with his warm spirit and passion for life.

Married on February 1, 1958, to the love of his life, Hilda - together, they built a beautiful life filled with unconditional love, captivating music, worldly travels, and above all, faith and family.

From Moshi to Montreal, they were the ultimate duo - never apart. They celebrated a remarkable 67 years of marriage together two weeks before his passing.

Nelson will be lovingly remembered by his family - caring father to Elaine (Gerard), Noel (Liane), and Malcolm; adoring Papa to Amanda (Neil), Matthew, Jeremy, Rachel, Olivia, and Daniel, and cherished great-grandpapa to Jaden and Lewis.

Nelson’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His love for music, his infectious energy, and his unwavering devotion to his family and community will be fondly missed and never forgotten.

All are welcome to attend the visitation on Sunday, March 2nd, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Turner & Porter Funeral Home (1981 Dundas St. W, Mississauga) to share memories and pay their respects.

The funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 3rd, at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Mississauga (2473 Thorn Lodge Dr.).

Although Nelson is no longer with us, his music will continue to play in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honour of Nelson to Covenant House.

It is with great sadness that I send my sympathy and condolences to Hilda and all the family.
Nelson was the star of the show as we partied together as teenagers in Bombay.
I am devastated that I will not be there to say thank you for the joy he brought into my life then, in Ottawa and in Mississauga as I am now in Myrtle Beach. My thoughts and prayers are with Nelson 's family. May his soul rest in peace
