In Celebration of

Natalie Axon

June 2, 1927 -  April 12, 2020

Natalie passed away peacefully at the ripe old age of 92 on April 12, 2020. Loving mother to her sons Michael, George (Brenda), and Victor (Kira); loving grandmother to Michael (Marissa), Alexander, Alisha (Frankie), Natalie (Linus), Michelle (Jorge), and John; loving great-grandmother to Paige, Gavin, and Emerson.

Natalie was born in Odessa USSR and left Odessa by boat while Nazi bombs were flying overhead. After a displaced persons camp in Austria, she made her way to Canada with her parents Michael and Lydia Manuiloff. They settled in Canada where Natalie became a pillar of the Russian community in Toronto. After many years of hard work, first in the garment district, and eventually as a Library Technician at Robarts Library - U of T, Natalie retired.

Natalie was well known and admired for her acts of kindness – with all the members of her expanding family and with members of her church, particularly with new Russian immigrants to Canada who needed help finding their way. We used to joke that her name and phone number were etched on the washroom walls in Gander Newfoundland, since so many new immigrants found her! Natalie hosted countless celebrations feeding multitudes out of her tiny kitchen. She had a combination of generosity and humility that is an example to us all. She will be missed!

A private burial will take place at Prospect Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held to celebrate her life at a later date. Donations in Natalie’s memory may be made to The Daily Bread Food Bank. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

My deepest sympathy and condolences on her passing.
Long memories of her work and help at the Russian House and Church especially with new immigrant arrival at church who still remember her and her kindness , one such person is Olga Jouravlova who remembers her warmth and kindness that was offered 25 years ago. She cried when she heard the sad news.
My last happy memories of her was at her 90 Th's Birthday celebrations.
She will be missed .
