In Celebration of

Nadia "Nelly" Leshkiw

January 2, 1930 -  March 8, 2023

Peacefully in Toronto at the Humber River Hospital at 5:30 am on March 8th.

Nadia recently lost her husband Walter Leshkiw in May of 2022 and is survived by her three children: Michael (wife Tracey) Alicia, and youngest daughter Mary (husband Bohdan) She was loved by her grandchildren Tessa & Bryson Leshkiw and Talya Dolban

Her stepbrother Andrew Gulych also lives in Canada with his wife Lesia, daughter Luba and son Volodymyr and family.

Nadia ‘Nelly’ Leshkiw. Born as Anastasia Gulycz.
Nadia had a difficult childhood from the start as her natural mother died shortly after giving birth to her. Her father remarried and she was raised by her stepmother in Ukraine/Poland. In her 30's she had an invite to visit Canada and shortly after she married her husband Walter.

The Leshkiw family lived in Sudbury and attended St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Nadia enjoyed cooking for the family, picking blueberries and mushrooms; canning, embroidering and making jewelry. Those who visited the Leshkiw home would know she also loved collecting "Chachki" She cherished them and kept them in a glass display under lock and key. She also had the saying " do pary," or how about a pair, when serving varenyky or food. During the summer the family enjoyed doing outside activities due to the cold Sudbury winters. With her family, she loved going to the Sudbury Villa Maria church camp after mass and relaxing near the lake.

Nadia enjoyed writing letters to her family in Ukraine and eventually visited Ukraine in the 80's. From time to time she traveled on holidays with her senior group. Some of her pastimes included playing her favorite card game rummy 500, watching Ukrainian movies, and listening to music. She was the rock of the family always on the go. She was also the disciplinarian of the family. When you did something wrong to avoid punishment one would have to say "Slava Icycy Hrusty". Over time the " Glory to Jesus" did not work anymore when punishment was required.

For the past several years she resided at the Ukrainian Care Centre with excellent care.
