In Celebration of

Myroslav Baran

February 10, 1973 -  August 13, 2022

Beloved husband to Larysa Snihura for over 22 years. Devoted father of two wonderful daughters: Ariana and Eliseya. Son of Stephanie Baran (née Lazar) and the late Bohdan Baran.

Born and raised in Hamilton, Myroslav moved to Toronto as a young adult, becoming a dedicated schoolteacher and respected pedagogue. He gave his entire two-decade teaching career to St. Sofia elementary in Mississauga where he was a fixture, known to students as “Pahn Baran.” He was also a lifelong member and volunteer with the Ukrainian Youth Association.

Myros', as he was called by family and friends, loved nature, wilderness, philosophy and literature. A former lifeguard and organizer of wilderness camps, he shared his passion for the outdoors with others. He was a kind-hearted soul with an inquisitive mind – one that enriched those around him with informed and well-read perspectives. Year-round, Myros', Larysa, and the girls would cottage in Muskoka and Parry Sound, skiing, hiking, swimming and canoeing in their treasured outdoors and pursuing many camping adventures which took them across Canada from the Rockies to the East Coast.

Myroslav’s life ended prematurely – well before his time. He is survived by two sisters, Ivanna (Ben) and Larysa (Eric), by brother Yaroslav (Tara), father-in-law Nestor (married to the late Luba), brother-in-law Taras (Ulana) and sister-in-law Tanya (Nick), six nieces – Taisa, Inessa, Zoia, Sophia, Emilia and Julia – and by many aunts, uncles and cousins from Osaka to Vancouver to New Jersey.

Family will receive friends at Turner & Porter funeral home, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, on Sunday, August 21st, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., and 6:00-8:00 p.m., with requiem Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. A private funeral and interment will follow on Monday.

Miroslav left me with many fond memories. He always greeted me with a smile and a positive comical comment.
His many talents were appreciated by his students and colleagues at St. Sofia. Myroslav, your untimely death has left us speechless.
