It is with great sadness that the family of Myrna Jean Peterson announce her passing on August 24, 2023. She will be deeply missed by her family and a lifetime of friends. Myrna is survived by her loving husband Gerry of 60 years. She was a loving and inspirational mother and mother in law to Sandra and Sharon (Gary). A proud and adoring Nana to Jordan, Kyle and Rachel. Myrna will be lovingly remembered by her sister in law Judy (Frank) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Myrna was born and raised in Winnipeg to the late Jean and George Budden on October 13, 1938. She is predeceased by her brother Jeffrey and in laws Angela and Earl Peterson.
Myrna was a proud Winnipegger. Myrna trained as a nurse and rose to become Head Nurse of Pediatrics at the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital. Myrna spent many summer adventures at Lake of the Woods (Kenora) where she ultimately met Gerry who was the love of her life. She was a true partner and they travelled across the country due to many company transfers and built a large network of friends in whatever community they settled.
Myrna had a lifelong dedication to her community and volunteering. She was actively involved with many organizations and charities in the communities where she lived and this included Winnipeg, Kingston, Beaconsfield (Montreal) and Mississauga.
In the late 1980’s, Myrna and Gerry moved back to Mississauga where they spent the balance of their years and retirement. They quickly embraced their new life broadening their already wide circle of friends. Myrna enjoyed playing tennis, bridge clubs, traveling and was a consummate hostess and a fantastic cook. Myrna had a personality that lit up every room she entered. Warm and outgoing, Myrna loved to laugh and she delighted in meeting new people, but it was her many long and enduring friendships that were her greatest source of joy.
Myrna will be truly missed but will be with us forever. We wish to thank the wonderful caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living. Their dedication, compassion and support made a very difficult time easier. The family will hold a private funeral service.
Details on a celebration of life will be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer Society of Canada are appreciated.
