In Celebration of

Monsignor Edmond Putrimas

September 3, 1959 -  November 15, 2022

Predeceased by his father Mindaugas, Monsignor Edmond Putrimas will be remembered and missed by his mother Sofija, brother Jonas ( Edita ), nephew Paulius and niece Andrea, relatives in Canada and Lithuania, and the Lithuanian community around the world.

Msgr. Edmond Putrimas (lovingly known as Father Ed) was born in Toronto on September 3, 1959. He attended seminary in Rome and was ordained by Pope John Paul II in 1985. He began his pastoral work in Germany as chaplain of the Lithuanian Vasario 16 high school, and as the the assistant to Bishop Paul Baltakis OFM.

Returning to Toronto to serve in the Archdiocese of Toronto, Monsignor Putrimas assisted in the Resurrection Parish and was chaplain at Pearson International Airport. Over 40 memorable years, generations of young Lithuanian Canadians learned the importance of their heritage from Father Ed, chaplain at Camp Kretinga summer youth camp in Ontario. Many became good friends who later invited him to officiate at their weddings and childrens’ baptisms.

In 2003, Msgr.Putrimas took on the global responsibility of identifying and addressing the needs of Lithuanian Catholics living outside Lithuania. He was appointed by Lithuania’s Bishops Conference, and his work took him around the world to minister to communities large and small. He was well respected for his calm and caring approach in carrying out his important mission.

Msgr. Putrimas served as a director of Lithuanian Catholic Religious Aid, the World Lithuanian Community and the Lithuanian Canadian Community, sat as a member of the Diaspora Parliamentary Commission of the Parliament of.Lithuania.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Camp Kretinga or Lithuanian Church of the Resurrection.

I have known Fr. Ed for the last 25 years or so and can echo and add to the reporting of his graciousness. His faith in the person of Jesus Christ was unselfconsciously shared each time I met him. In the early, 2000's I saw his dedicated service at the airport and of his love for the camp. I deeply appreciated the respect he showed to everyone and the fraternity he displayed toward his fellow priests. May his firm hope in the resurrection and the fullness of life come to fruition. Thank you also to everyone who has loved him.

I'm feeling very sad hearing about Monsignor Edmond Putrimas' untimely passing. He has left us far too early, he was just a bit older than my oldest child. I was a volunteer at the Airport Chapel and I knew Father Ed very well. I can't believe this sad news, I'm shocked. He was always so nice at our Volunteer Lunches, he attended whenever he could. He told me he really enjoyed my Irish Soda Bread. RIP Father Ed
