In Celebration of

Michael James Brennan

June 3, 1933 -  March 16, 2021

We announce with sadness the passing of our dear Uncle Mike at Sunnybrook Hospital on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

Dearly loved patriarch of a very large family and loving mentor to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews in the Brennan, Lay, and Darmody clans.

Predeceased by his parents John Joseph (Hackett) Brennan (1941) and Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Brennan (1948); and his siblings Gerard (late Margaret); John (late Jean); Mary (late Seward Lay), Theresa, Joseph, Patrick (Margaret), Catherine, and Helen (late Michael F. Darmody).

Mike was a long-time resident of Orillia and co-owner (with his late brother Gerard), of the Western Tire and Totem Pole Inn. Upon retirement Mike returned to his Toronto High Park roots and St. Joan of Arc parish.
He made friends easily throughout the generations and was keenly interested in the thoughts and insights of younger people.

His faith was very important to him as he attended daily Mass as much as possible and was an active member at St. Joan of Arc and Our Lady of Sorrows parishes in Toronto.

Mike had a gift for bringing family together, placing God and the value of love and family above all else. His wisdom, kindness and life lessons live on in our large, growing family. His humour and wit “the main thing is not to panic” will be sadly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully received to St. Joan of Arc Parish, ShareLife, Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA), or Esk-Omi Missions.

Love is always patient and kind, it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence; and is not resentful. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.
Love does not come to an end. – 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8

I was so sad with the passing of uncle Mike. I always enjoyed his quiet ways and will miss his dry sense of humour. I am so grateful for his efforts at bringing our large extended family together. With his strong faith he has no doubt joined the Angels and will remain in our hearts forever.
Xo Uncle Mike.

Although I only met uncle Mike a couple of times, it feels like I knew him so well. Sue (Langlois) used to talk about him all the time and I had nothing but respect and admiration for uncle Mike. Everytime Sue commented about something I did by saying "Uncle Mike would be proud of you", I felt so proud of myself!

The best tribute I can pay to him would be to continue to espouse those attributes that defined who he was - the only exception I'm willing to make is that I will get myself a hearing aid when my hearing deteriorates :-)

Rest in peace uncle Mike!
Love,
Sanjay

While it is always sad to leave, it's the memories and good deeds we leave behind that matter most. Based on Pete's adoring comments over the years and the summary highlights provided in his obituary, Mike left rich legacy which will only grow over time.
