In Celebration of

Michael (Mike) Commons

June 29, 1961 -  February 24, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike, beloved husband, father, son, uncle, and friend who passed away on February 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike leaves behind his wife and best friend Grace; two sons, Dylan and Conor; brothers, Seamus (Brenda) and John (Mary); sisters, Bernie (Tom) and Dolores (Michael). Mike was a kind and gentle soul who gave far more than he took and was taken from us way too early. Adored by his sons, as well as his nieces and nephews, nothing meant more to Mike than Grace and his two boys, of whom he was immensely proud. Born in Co. Meath, Ireland, he immigrated to Canada with his beloved Grace in 1987.

Mike started his ambitious career at Altus Group in 1989 and spent the next 33 years with the company, most recently as President, Cost Consulting & Project Management. He made immeasurable contributions to the Canadian commercial real estate industry throughout his 30+ year career. He helped shape the growing skylines across Canada’s major cities by influencing the development of monumental construction projects. His professional legacy will live on, carried forward by the many colleagues and clients whose careers have been mentored and inspired by Mike.

His warm and gentle presence will always be with us, and he will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to Mike's entire family. How tragic that Mike was taken away from us so soon.

I was devastated to hear that Mike had cancer. Over the past six months, his cancer journey has been cruel and excruciating. With each procedure, and each setback, Mike was determined to get to the other side. With true grit he faced his Everest. Mike, was a Wise Warrior and Brave Heart. He was kind and gentle. He had a beautiful loving heart. I'm so grateful for the conversations we had during this time. Even though I felt like I couldn't offer much, he was always so gracious and thanked me for my love and support.

I first met Mike and Grace when they came on my Sacred Sedona retreat in Arizona. I saw a man deeply touched by the beauty and energy of the red rocks.. From there, Mike did some of my other programs including an amazing retreat to Italy's Amalfi Coast with his beloved Grace. They were honeymooners there--every picture I took of them, Grace had her head on Mike's chest and he had his arms around her. I promised more Italy retreats after your treatment, but sadly, it wasn't to be.

I will never forget you Mike. May you rest now. You didn't lose the battle--you've entered another dimension. --a Spiritual one. I know you were greeted by your Mum and all the people who love you on the other side. You will live on in Grace, your boys, and your future grandchildren. You will live on in every soul you touched.

You will be missed.
With love,
Grace
