In Celebration of

Merry Rose Tunney

April 28, 1943 -  January 28, 2026

Merry Rose Tunney (née Swiddle) passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital, just shy of her 83rd birthday. Born in Levack, ON to Rose (née Piaskoski) and Frank Swiddle, she later moved to Mississauga with her husband, Edward Tunney (predeceased), where she became a pillar of her church and local community.

Merry was a lifelong caretaker – she loved tending to her garden, maintaining her home, and sharing meals with loved ones. She appreciated friendly chats with neighbours and could mend just about any article of clothing that was brought to her. When she wasn’t working on puzzles or watching the Toronto Blue Jays, Merry found great joy in travelling with family, adventuring to places like Hawai’i, Iceland, and the Tuscan countryside.

Merry was the loving mother of Glen (Leah), Catherine (Richard), and Gregory (Vanessa); and proud grandmother to Matthew, Rebecca (Lucas), Ainsley, Mariska, Carys, Kaylee, and Jenson. She is also survived by her sister Frances Swiddle and brother Ronald Swiddle (Elizabeth). Merry was a steady hand and a warm hug for everyone in her life, and she will be deeply missed.

Donations can be made in Merry’s honour to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Visitation: Tuesday, February 3, 2026 – 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Turner & Porter Neweduk Chapel.

Funeral: Wednesday, February 4, 2026 – 10AM at St. Martin of Tours Parish; interment at Assumption Cemetery to follow.

We will miss Aunt Merry. She has been a big part of our family . She was a kind considerate lady, who always thought of others ahead of herself. She is a great loss to our family.

Dear family of Merry

I will miss this soul at family get togethers, and also her interactions with her nieces and nephews. Her contributions to potluck dinners were enjoyed, and I am sure that all family will miss this part of her. May she rest in peace.

Our deepest sympathy to the Tunney family. We will most definitely miss Aunt Merry very much. Her quiet grace and guiding bright light has shone over us for more than 30 years and we will miss that tremendously.
