In Celebration of

Melvin Emille Melnike

November 19, 1936 -  May 10, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Melvin Melnike on Tuesday May 10, 2022 at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia of 60 years.

Proud and loving father of Darlene, James, Lynn and Edward (Jennifer). Cherished Papa of Kathryn (Derek), Christine (Carlos), Nicholas and Quinn. Great Grandfather of Ariana Rose and Theia (born May 8, 2022) Mel was predeceased by his parents Michael and Harriet Melnike (nee Newman), siblings Malcolm, John, Donald and son-in-law Frank.

After working for the City of Toronto Forestry Department for over 30 years he took an early retirement. He retired 8 years before Mom. During this time he became an amazing House Husband. He would drive Mom to the Islington subway every morning. He would then come home, go grocery shopping, clean the house, work outside in the yard tending to the gardens and lawn and cook dinner every night. He would then pick Mom up from the subway every evening after she was done work.

Once they both retired they were very difficult to track down. They were both very active volunteers in the church, they golfed, dined out with friends, went to dances and travelled together. At 75 years old they made the huge trek to Australia to visit James and his family. They stayed for 3 months. It was a trip of a lifetime. They had an absolutely wonderful time and often commented how they were treated like royalty the entire time.

Dad was loved by so many nieces and nephews. He will be missed very much along with his wit and sense of humour. We cannot forget to mention that as long as you were with Dad/Uncle Mel you knew you were going to eat a meal.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, 625 Atwater Avenue, Mississauga on Wednesday May 25, 2022 at 11am.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society of St. Dominic’s Church.

I am very sorry for Mel and Pat’s family- I loved sitting near your parents at church at St Dominic’s. We were the Saturday evening Mass regulars- both of your parents were always full of light and wit ( well as much as being in church would allowed)
Both of your parents were wonderful examples of love and caring. I am sorry for your loss
May they Rest In Peace- 🕊Anne
