January 25, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Maureen Bernadette Wei (nee Look Yan) on January 25, 2021 at the age of 70.
Maureen was born to Ivan and Rita Look Yan in Point Fortin, Trinidad, the youngest sister to brothers Brian and Ronald. She immigrated to Canada in 1976, where she would meet and marry her husband of 38 years, Charles, on May 29, 1982.
Maureen worked with both the Royal Bank of Trinidad & Tobago and Royal Bank of Canada. She would go on to serve the local community as the coordinator of Meals on Wheels in Etobicoke with the Canadian Red Cross for over 15 years.
Maureen is survived by her husband Charles, children Natalie, Nicholas and Daniel, mother Rita, mother-in-law Eileen, brothers Brian (Mireya) and Ronald (Maureen), as well as countless family and friends across the world. Maureen has been preceded in death by her father Ivan, father-in-law Robert and close friend Marjorie Assing.
Maureen will be remembered for her kindness, patience, and generosity. Always thoughtful and selfless, her encouragement and support will be missed by so many. May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones in heaven.
The funeral service will take place on Monday, February 1, limited to close family due to COVID restrictions, followed by a burial at Sanctuary Park.
There will be a series of masses at her home parish dedicated to her memory starting Saturday, January 30 through Sunday, February 7, as well as Saturday, March 6. Monday to Saturday masses will take place at 9:30am while Sunday masses will take place at 10:30am. These will be live-streamed via the parish website (www.transchurch.ca).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation "In Honour" of Maureen to the Canadian Red Cross "Where it is needed most" (https://www.redcross.ca/donate).
