In Celebration of

Matthew William Scanlan

February 26, 1982 -  March 19, 2024

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew William Scanlan on March 19, 2024 at the young age of 42. Matt is survived by his loving Partner in Crime Laura Dyke.

Cherished Son of Kim (Fabian) and Bill (Kim). Big Brother to Kelly, Michelle (Brent), and Ryan. Predeceased by his brother Darcy. Uncle to Owen and soon to make an appearance, Darcy. Grandson to Robina and James Scully, Evelyn and Matthew Scanlan. Adored by his Aunts, Uncles and Cousins throughout Canada, U.S., England, and Australia. Devoted friend to so many, from his childhood in Streetsville, young adulthood in Port Credit, ending up where he was always meant to be, Toronto. Matt wore many hats; Chef, Professional Gamer, DJ, Event Organizer, Podcast and Media Producer. But his passion and commitment for Jungle Drum and Bass never waivered. From the old raves at the Science Centre or the ROM, to hosting his annual Birthday Bash just last month. He was loyal to his music community and his DNB family grew stronger for it. Matthew always wanted to make his mark on the world and to make a difference. He was larger than life, living it to the fullest. When he passed, Matt was at the top of his game and he made it look so easy.

I am a life long friend of Matthew’s Aunt Patrica (Trish) Scanlan. That life has always included Trish sharing
Her love for Matt and his family, from childhood to now. So I feel the grief she and her brother Bill and his family are feeling. They are not alone because they as a family have always been there for each other and have always included others making you part of their extended family.
Sending loving supportive healing energy.
With heart
Jean

A wonderful, vibrant young man so full of life and love for others. Every time I saw him there was always a smile and a sense of energy that surrounded him. He will be sorely missed. Each time I left an encounter with Matt I always felt uplifted and so happy to have been with him. He had a joy about him and just made you feel good about life and what was down the road for him.
Our condolences to the family and our dear friends Bill and Kim. The world has lost a good one, but heaven has gained a marvelous Angel. Rest in Peace my friend
