In Celebration of

Masako Nakamura

September 17, 1925 -  October 3, 2020

NAKAMURA (nee Hashimoto), Masako, better known by those close to her as “Baachan” (grandma) or “Mummy”– peacefully took her last breath on October 03, 2020 in Toronto in the presence of family. Beloved wife of the late, Lawrence Michizu, cherished mother of Ken (deceased), Christine, Grace, Mark and Muriel, favourite grandmother of Stephanie (Sean), Christopher (Rana), Sarah, Leah, David, Celine and Stephan, loving great-grandmother of Garion, treasured mother-in-law of Masatoshi (Matt) and dear Canada mother of Atsushi Sunami and grandmother of Ayana. During her 95 years, Baachan touched the hearts of countless family members and friends in Canada, Japan and South Korea through her overwhelming generosity, perpetual humour and loving kindness. She will be profoundly missed by all that knew her. Due to COVID-19, a private family gathering will be held at Yorke Chapel, Turner & Porter Funeral Home on October 10, 2020 at 11:30 am (EDT). Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her honour by cheque payable to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) Foundation or online at https://jccc.on.ca/join-support/donate.

Baachan, you will be forever missed by those you touched during your 95 years but, you will never be forgotten. You have been my inspiration and mentor throughout my life and the catalyst to drive me to where I am today. There was one good outcome of the pandemic for me and that is it gave me the opportunity to spend everyday during the last 6 months with you. My biggest regret however, is that we cannot send you off in the manner that you deserve but we will do so when it is safe for everyone. You will be in all of our hearts forever and until we meet again, rest in peace and send my love to Jiichan and Ken. Your loving daughter, Christine
