In Celebration of

Mary Van Oort

February 4, 1926 -  May 11, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother/Oma, Mary Theresia at the age of 97 on May 11, 2023 surrounded by family at the Brampton Civic Hospital. Predeceased by her parents; Hendricks and Wilhelmina Van De Rijt and her 10 siblings.

Mary is the beloved wife of the late John Van Oort. She loved well and was much loved in return.

She will be missed by her children, Frank (Linda), Wilma Hope (Kevin), Grace Hunter (Rodger), Henny (Catharine), John (Sharon), and Michiel.

Her precious grandchildren, Cassandra, Kelly, Jonathon, Kyle, Devan, Scott, Cameron, Graeme, Laura, Carly, Sam, Lucas, Jenn, and Jon.

Her great grandchildren filled her with joy, Ava, Audrey, Rylan, Cohen, Flora, Calvin, Emily, and Ella.

Mom/Oma loved being surrounded with family and friends. She volunteered and was very active in the church throughout her life. Her many talents included knitting, crocheting, and gardening. One of her greatest joys was playing Rummikub; a traditional family board game, which she played endlessly and triumphantly.

It was truly a pleasure visiting with mom at the Holland Christian Homes. We are grateful for the loving care and kindness of her friends/staff.

Mom/Oma – we’re so blessed to have the wonderful years with you.

You’ll be greatly missed.

Although I cannot attend I am there in spirit. I will fondly remember our time together. The different holidays together, from Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, to her stories of her time during the war. Gone but not forgotten. I'll keep the recipe for olliebollen for future holidays and a memory of her each time they are made. Oma was a tough woman, a fighter and I am happy to know she's at peace now and doesn't have to fight any longer. All my love to the family.

Mary/Oma was a wonderful Mother in Law and grandmother to my daughter Cassie . She was one of the strongest women I have known . Her family was everything to her . I wish I could have seen her in the last few years but covid took that away . She will be missed but not forgotten .
