In Celebration of

Mary Saksun

September 24, 1924 -  April 9, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Saksun, on Thursday April 8, 2021. Mary passed away at the age of 96, at Trillium Hospital, with her family by her side. She is survived by her children, Jane and John (Charlene), grandchildren Nicholas and Claire, brother-in-law, Emil Petko and family and cousin-in-law, Michael Olah and family. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John, to whom she was married to for over 73 years.

Mary was born on September 24, 1924, in Pavlovce, Czechoslovakia and was raised by her parents, George and Mary Beres. At age nine, she came to Canada. She attended Harbord Collegiate, where she became an accomplished gymnast and singer. She met her husband, John L. Saksun, at their church. They were married in 1942.

After graduating from Harbord Collegiate, she trained as a bookkeeper. In 1952, Mary and her husband incorporated The Queensway Machine Products Ltd, where she worked as the company's Secretary and Treasurer for the next 35 years.

She was a lovely woman, a devout Catholic and a member of the Rosary Society at Sts Cyril and Methodius Parish. She enjoyed shopping, playing golf, travelling with her husband, spending winters in Florida and especially spending time with friends and family. She was a loving, caring mother and a doting Baba to Nicholas and Claire. She touched many people and will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know and love her.

Our family wishes to thank her caregivers, who helped her so much over the last several years of her life. Thanks to those special people, Zeni, Teri, Baby and especially Susan and her family, for the love and care they showed to our mother. Our family would also like to thank the dedicated staff at Trillium Hospital, for looking after Mary during her stay there in 2021.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held.

For those who wish, donations may be made in memory of Mary to Sts. Cyril & Methodius Parish.

Dear Janey & Johnnie
So sorry to read of your mother's passing. She definitely lived a full life.
She was always a quiet and loving person. Loved picking her raspberries on the Queensway.
Hope you both are doing well. Stay safe and healthy.
Love
Patty
