It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Baka, and PraBaba on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Allendale Long Term Care Home.

Mary was born on December 11, 1930, in her beloved Volavje, Croatia to Franjo (passed 1979) and Jelka Kostelac (passed 1983). She was predeceased by her husband Stjepan (May 1973) and her grandsons, Stephen and John (1988)

She leaves behind her daughter, Millie, and son Frank (Julie), grandchildren, Nicholas, Stephanie (James), Samantha, Steven, Ryan, and Jenna (Mike), along with her great-grandchildren Brooke, Jack, and Cameron.

Mary was an active member of the Croatian Community through the Croatian Churches in Toronto and Mississauga, as well as the Croatian National Home in Toronto. She was a hard worker and dedicated to her family. We will forever remember the smell of her baking filling our homes and hearts.

The family wishes to extend our thanks to Allendale Long Term Care Home for their compassionate care of Mary.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Turner and Porter “Neweduk” Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga. Funeral Mass to be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Trinity Croatian Catholic Parish, 2110 Trafalgar Rd., Oakville, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Rd., Mississauga.

I am so sad that I cannot be there for my kuma's (godmother) funeral. My kuma was a warmhearted, classy and wonderful person and extension of my mother, who was her BFF. When they were together which was often, I felt blessed and surrounding by double love. Kuma worked very hard and took good care of her kids after the early passing of her husband, my godfather. I always had great respect for her. She was a great cook and awesome baker....oh how I loved her little rolls 'kiflice' with walnuts (puff pastry made from scratch). She always had a smile for me and made me feel very comfortable and loved when when I was in her presence. The absolute best godmother a person could have! My dear, lovely kuma....I will miss you so much. You will always be in my heart. Now you and your BFF are together again. Zdenko and I send our heartfelt deepest sympathies to all of you. We are truly sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all your family.
She was a lovely, kind and elegant lady. She always had a smile for everyone, a friendly word, and baked the greatest strudels for Brian and especially Jeffrey. She will always have a special place in our hearts and will be missed.
