Kathleen (Kathy, Kay) passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Credit Valley Hospital at 93 years of age. Kathleen was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend John Graham Nairn of Mississauga, ON after 63 years of marriage. Kathleen and Graham shared their love of the great outdoors with their family, taking their children camping across Canada when the children were young and later spending many happy summers at the cottage they built together on Georgian Bay, with their grandchildren. Kathleen loved and celebrated indigenous art and her last bucket list trip just a few years ago, was to beautiful Haida Gwaii. Kathleen loved to travel whether near or far, was an avid reader, especially of murder mystery books, and will be remembered to have made the best peach marmalade, strawberry jam, and oatmeal cookies!

She will be greatly missed by her children Dawn Kathleen (Andrew Strong) of Whistler, David Graham (Tracey Gail) of Waterloo, Diane Aileen (Joseph Defalco) of Burlington and Debra Margaret (Alexander Moy) of Mississauga. Grandma/Momma will be missed by her grandchildren Jenny (Kyle Milino) and Angela Strong (Andrew Tervit), Shannon, Megan and Daniel Nairn, Matthew (Catherine Halivevalakis) and Michael Defalco (Jennifer McPhee) and Ian, Benjamin and Isabelle Moy and great granddaughter Violet Defalco.

Kathleen was the daughter of Margaret (Fawcett) and Robert Pollock of Swastika, ON who instilled in her a strong love of family, firm religious beliefs and a dedication to community and her country, Canada. For several years Kathleen enjoyed working on her family genealogy and she loved discovering the many personal stories and photos of her family’s past. It gave her great pleasure to pass it on to her family, as part of her legacy.

Kathleen was predeceased by her sister Norah Lomax, brother Robert Pollock, nephews Ian Lomax and Robert (Bob) Wright and her brothers-in-law William (Bill) Wright, Ron Heale and her sisters-in-law Dorothy Pollock, Lorraine Fors and Jane Nairn. She is survived by her brother-in-law Don Lomax (Kathrine) of Toronto, her brother John Pollock (Barbara) of Toronto, her sisters Roberta Wright of Kingston and Ann Heale of Sudbury and her brothers-in-law Arne Fors of Innisfil and Jim Nairn of Mississauga as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

Kathleen started her career in Pharmacy with her apprenticeship in Kirkland Lake Ont., graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree and worked as a community pharmacist in Kirkland Lake, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Mississauga and Etobicoke. She was also a teaching assistant with the Faculty of Pharmacy for Dr. D. Kennedy for fifteen years, during the time she practised in Etobicoke. She practised Pharmacy for almost fifty years and enjoyed her chosen career. She kept a keen interest in the profession all her life.

Kathleen received several awards from the Province of Ontario for her community work in Mississauga, where she lived. She was also actively involved in many organizations. She was a long standing member of Mississauga’s University Women’s Club, President of the University Settlement Auxiliary, Settlement Board member, President of the University of Toronto Arts Women’s Club, and a member of the University of Toronto Women’s Association. She was also a member of the South Mississauga Historical Society.
