At the age of 87, Mary Chodelka (Karabinos) passed away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital on February 9, 2025. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Albin (Al) Chodelka and her brother Joe (Jacquie) Karabinos. She is survived by her daughters, Monica (Matthew) Nesbitt and Laurie (Neil) Freeman. She will be dearly missed as 'Baba' by Dylan, Jacob, and Olivia.
Mary was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario and after marriage to Albin Chodelka in May 1966, they started a family on Grace Street before moving to Brampton where they called home for close to 50 years. Mary worked in hospitality, serving long tenures at Markland Wood Golf Club and Brampton Golf Club.
Mary was a devout Catholic and an active member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Slovak Parish of Mississauga and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Brampton. She found joy and peace in her faith, and was a cherished member of the Rosary Society, where she dedicated herself to prayer and service. Her love for her community and Church extended beyond the walls of the church, as she was a long-time member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, where she formed lifelong friendships – often traveling together for bowling tournaments.
Mary’s generosity was a hallmark of who she was. She had a remarkable gift for cooking, turning every meal into an offering of love, care, and warmth. Whether it was for her family, friends, or neighbors, Mary’s home was always open, and her table a place where everyone felt welcomed and loved.
Her kind, gentle spirit, and capacity to care for others are the qualities that will stay with us always. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
We would like to send a special note of thanks to Mary's dear neighbors, Wendy, John, Sharmila, Latchmie and Gayatri, who treated Mary like family, checking in with her regularly and always available to lend a helping hand when needed. Your love, care and support will not be forgotten.
