It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Irene Adams, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, February 3rd. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, and is survived by her nephew Michael Renaud, grandniece Layla, grandnephews Matthew and Jesse (Maria), along with her great grandnephew and niece Pierce and Amelia.
Irene had an outstanding career in teaching and was the principal of three schools in the TCDSB.
She was one of the founding members of the teacher's federation for her board.
Along with a Governor General's Award and a Papal Award she will be remembered for her quest for academic excellence, an abundance of creativity, unique love of her pupils, endless staff meetings, a respect for all, and a joy of life that all should hope to attain. Her successful career was a byproduct of her love of children and dedication to the belief that children were meant for greatness. Traveling, shopping and gift giving were lifelong delights for Irene as her generosity knew no bounds. A devout Catholic, Irene’s faith sustained and guided her throughout her life, giving to endless charities and providing for those in need. As a proud matriarch of her family, her devotion was seen through her unconditional love, kindness, open mindedness and commitment to her family and their success.
Irene’s life was enriched with a wealth of sincerely loving and dear teacher friends who remained devoted to Irene long past retirement.
For those who had the privilege of knowing Irene Adams, her values and beliefs which guided her life would leave a lasting impression. Her family and close friends know that she is now organizing some complex and imaginative event in heaven. Those who loved her are left with treasured memories of a great woman and a life well lived.
A private family service and burial will be held in memory of Irene. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Irene’s generosity of spirit, donations can be made to either the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Covenant House.
