In Celebration of

Mary Irene Adams

July 17, 1924 -  February 3, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Irene Adams, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, February 3rd. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends, and is survived by her nephew Michael Renaud, grandniece Layla, grandnephews Matthew and Jesse (Maria), along with her great grandnephew and niece Pierce and Amelia.
Irene had an outstanding career in teaching and was the principal of three schools in the TCDSB.
She was one of the founding members of the teacher's federation for her board.
Along with a Governor General's Award and a Papal Award she will be remembered for her quest for academic excellence, an abundance of creativity, unique love of her pupils, endless staff meetings, a respect for all, and a joy of life that all should hope to attain. Her successful career was a byproduct of her love of children and dedication to the belief that children were meant for greatness. Traveling, shopping and gift giving were lifelong delights for Irene as her generosity knew no bounds. A devout Catholic, Irene’s faith sustained and guided her throughout her life, giving to endless charities and providing for those in need. As a proud matriarch of her family, her devotion was seen through her unconditional love, kindness, open mindedness and commitment to her family and their success.
Irene’s life was enriched with a wealth of sincerely loving and dear teacher friends who remained devoted to Irene long past retirement.
For those who had the privilege of knowing Irene Adams, her values and beliefs which guided her life would leave a lasting impression. Her family and close friends know that she is now organizing some complex and imaginative event in heaven. Those who loved her are left with treasured memories of a great woman and a life well lived.
A private family service and burial will be held in memory of Irene. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Irene’s generosity of spirit, donations can be made to either the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Covenant House.

It was with sadness that I hear of the passing of Irene Adams. I offer my condolences to her family.
I was a student of Irene's at St Elizabeth School in the 1960's. Irene was always encouraging and supportive of her classes and a wonderful Principal. Her dedication to teaching resulted in the success of many of her pupils.
As an altar boy, I would serve at the 7am weekday Mass. Irene was always in the front pew before school.. I had to be on my toes and ensure that I carried out my duties accurately or else I would hear about it from Irene afterwards.
Rest in Peace Irene

Irene was my Principal when I was appointed to Vice-Principal at St Roch School. She was an exceptional educator who taught me so much.
She became a family friend . We saw her at least twice a year , the highlight was our family visit at Christmas.
My children and I were proud that she participated in my wife's , Angela, funeral.

So many good memories.

Our most heart felt condolences to Irene's family at the loss of such a wonderful woman. We got to know Irene through our daughter and son in law in her more advanced years. We were struck by her faith, kindness, intelligence, and her charity. Our encounters with Irene were not frequent, yet she always left us impressed by the care she had for others, and the love and devotion she had for her family. She lived an extraordinary life, and we wish we had met her sooner. We expect that a conversation with Irene in her prime would have been one to hold on too..... We do not often see that much class in a person, so we hold on to it when we do........Rest in peace Irene
