In Celebration of

Mary Caroline Hanslep (nee Rocco)

July 28, 1929 -  June 26, 2023

In the early dawn of June 26, 2023, Mary, in her 94th year, beloved wife of 67 years to Astor and devoted and loving Mother to Sandra and Rick, passed peacefully in her sleep at home just as she wished, with Astor holding her hand. She was an exceptional mother-in-law to Rick (LePage) and Carol Hanslep who loved her dearly. To say she was a proud and doting grandmother would be an understatement. Meghan, Ryan, Cameron, Kyle, and Erin will miss their Maya with their whole hearts. Great grandchildren of the heart, Isla, Rylee, Willow, and Logan brought her much happiness.

While we are all feeling lost without her, we will carry on with so many joyful, happy, and enduring memories in our hearts. She taught us what it means to love unconditionally, to always be kind and forgiving and that family means everything. Rest now beautiful Maya.

The family would like to offer our endless gratitude to Mom’s devoted and loving caregivers, Anneta and Mickayla. You are a remarkable woman.

Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Neweduk – Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas Street West, Mississauga on Thursday, June 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service to be held on Friday, June 30th at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 61 West Deane Park Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Philip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Refugee Resettlement Fund.

Maya was such a lovely lady. She was so delightful to chat with the few times we were together. She definitely loved her grands and great grandchildren and spoke with such pride about Rick and Sandi.
We’re so happy to have been a small part of her life.
Our sincere condolences to Astor and all of the family.

Our deepest condolences Sandi, Rick and family. Your Mom was obviously a wonderful Mom and Grandma. She raised some wonderful children. May she now rest in peace with a great legacy.

We'll never forget the day we moved in next door to Mary and Astor on Talka Court. We were overwhelmed on move-in day and there's Mary at the door with a plate of fresh baked treats and a welcome to the neighborhood. Her kindness and generosity were legend. The best neighbors anyone could ask for! Although we lost touch over the years we will always have a warm spot in our heart for dear Mary. Our condolences to the family. She will be missed and remembered.
