Mary Elizabeth Mitchell

February 16, 1947 -  June 2, 2025


Mary Mitchell, 78, of Mississauga, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 2, 2025.

She was born on February 16, 1947, to Thomas and Oscella (nee McCartney) Clark in Bishopsbrigg, Scotland. Her family came to Canada in 1952 and landed in Toronto. She married Walter Mitchell on June 28, 1969, and they had two children, Joanne and Glenn.

She was a member of Sweet Adelines International for 49 years and sang barbershop with two choruses during that time: York Harmony Chorus (formerly York Highlands Chorus) and North Metro Chorus for 30 years. She proudly won her sixth gold medal with North Metro in Kansas City in 2024, an achievement she was proud of given her illness.

Mary is survived by Walter, Joanne, Glenn and his wife Alana, her siblings Tom (Pierrette), Jean, Ella (Allan) and Ian, sisters-in-law Nancy Mitchell, Betty Mitchell and Becky Mitchell, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Turner & Porter Funeral Home "Peel Chapel" on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 2 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Trillium Health Partners Foundation.

Mary and I became acquainted when she and her husband moved to Fairways and became friends. Mary wanted to live her life to the fullest. I admired her resilience, her courage and her positive attitude. She was the bravest woman I know.
I shall miss her friendship. Rest in peace, dear friend.
