In Celebration of

Mary Elizabeth Hunter

May 2, 1932 -  January 3, 2021

It is with sadness we share that Mary passed away with her family at her side on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at the age of 88.

Mary Copeland was born in Uxbridge, England on May 2, 1932. Beloved wife and life companion of recently deceased Richard John Hunter (married on July 4, 1959). They raised four children in Toronto – Susan (Kevin), Wendy (Marin), Lynda (Kevin), and John (Brenda).

Mary was a midwife in England, travelling from house to house on a bicycle. She immigrated to Canada meeting her beloved John on the ship over. She went to work in the Emergency Department in Hamilton. They married and moved to Toronto where Mary continued her Nursing career at the Toronto Western and later the Toronto General Hospital, all while raising four children.

Mary retired in 1986, after more than 30 years of service as a Registered Nurse. She filled her retirement years with travel, dancing, cross stitch pictures, knitting, cryptic crossword puzzles, family games, laughter and countless moments with her grandchildren.

Mary’s selfless nature carried on throughout her life; knitting over 500 winter hats for cancer patients, supporting the Saint Pius X Catholic Women’s League for years, delivering “Meals on Wheels”, and attending numerous school trips and sporting events as a volunteer.

She will be dearly missed by her children, their in-laws, many family friends, neighbours, and by her nine grandchildren – Angela (Noah), Jennifer (Ben), Laura (Alexi), Zachary, Matthew, Mike, Elyse, John (Victoria), and Drake (Cyrstin). She was delighted with the announcement of her first great-grandchild, Liam.

If desired, please consider a ShareLife Saint Pius X Toronto donation.
