In Celebration of

Mary E. McDonald

January 21, 1942 -  March 2, 2022

Mary passed away peacefully at her home in Mississauga on the morning of March 2, 2022 at the age of 80, after a long battle with dementia.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Michael (2011), she was the much loved mother of Paul and his wife Sarah, Brian, and Peter and his wife Terri-Ann. Mary was a devoted grandmother to Justin, Matthew, Kyle, Jacob, Lucas and Travis. She was the daughter of Joseph and Pasqua Bon who emigrated from Italy. Mary was born in Port Credit January 21, 1942, sister of Enis Maritan (Peter), predeceased by John (Mary) and Peter (Roseanne).

Mary will be remembered by her friends and family as one who shared generously of her time and her patience in listening. She loved children and was a dedicated teacher of many years for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. Mary enjoyed travelling, new activities and meeting new people. Retirement allowed her to participate in the Red Hat Society with other teachers, and to volunteer at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre. She loved to be outdoors, so when she wasn’t in her garden or at the cottage in Tamworth, she was hiking the Bruce Trail. In time she completed the full Bruce Trail, a treasured accomplishment.

The family would like to thank all the support workers who helped in her care to allow her to stay at home.

A private service to be held at Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, Mississauga

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or Diabetes Canada.

I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Mary's passing. My sincere sympathy to Paul, Brian, Peter and your families.
I remember her gentle spirit fondly. I have been inspired by her hiking and gardening and activities she took up later in life. May she rest in peace.

Although I only met her a few times, Mary’s love for her boys was obvious. She cared for them, and when she needed them, they cared for her. I hope your many wonderful family memories give you comfort during this difficult time.
