Dear Friends & Family:
It is with a heavy heart that I share that my mother passed away Monday evening.
My mother was an elegant, shy and sweet woman. She was also strangely feisty with a fierce temper. She loved to cook and was one of the best cooks I have ever known – maybe I am just prejudiced but I don’t think so.

My mom moved to a retirement home in 2014 and wasn't really able to really cook there. This Easter, mom wanted steak – but they never have steak at the retirement home. So I went to her home on Saturday night, stayed over and was going to cook her a steak dinner for our Easter Sunday feast. But after I made the salad she squeezed me out of her wee kitchen and finished making the dinner along with 2 perfect steaks – in an electric frying pan! Later when I was tucking her in, I gave her a kiss and thanked her for dinner and told her “it was the best steak I’ve had in ages.” She laughed, then smiled and said to me, “Your gonna miss me when I’m gone...”
I loved my mother deeply...and I will miss her...
I am grief stricken, but I take comfort knowing that my father is holding her close and assisting her with her journey home.
Go with grace dear mother...I love you

I've tried to think of something to write but everything feels like it's happening so fast
This is difficult...I feel like I need more time to process all this. I miss her already. I'll miss her funny laugh and how she calls me “maheta”...caring for us all in her strange shy way.
The spaghetti she used to make...how big her eyes looked in her glasses...her smile, very classic smile.
I hope she's found peace where ever she's at
I can't think back on all my memories at the moment, but I know she showed how she cared in the food she made; the food she made was some of the best I've ever had so I think that says a lot. She found a lot of peace in reading and I always admired that.
She was also very mysterious to me...her childhood and her family from Chihuahua...I always wondered in some ways who she was. The thing I know is that she loved Gus, I look at photos of her and grandpa...photo’s of their anniversary...and it's clear he was the love of her life. I've never seen another person look at someone with so much love and admiration, such endearment.
I wish I could be there but I'm thinking of you over here. I am feeling this day deeply...
XO
