In Celebration of

Marta Lychacz

December 28, 1957 -  February 10, 2020

After a difficult struggle with recurrent breast cancer, Marta Lychacz (nee Holyk) found her peace February 10th, 2020, at age 62. Marta will be deeply missed by her loving husband Bohdan; children Andriyko, Yuri, Kvitka, Marko and Lida; her mother Daria (Stephan – predeceased), brother Walter and sister Roma (Oles). She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Vera (Ivan), her mother-in-law Stepha, and many cousins, relatives and friends in Canada, the USA, and Ukraine. Marta devoted her life to her family and her children – nothing brought her greater joy than to see her family happy together. While we will never have quite as wonderful a home cooked meal, nor be able to make jokes as we did before, we know she will always be with us in everything we do. We are endlessly grateful for everything Mama is and love her more than we could possibly put into words. We will miss her more than we can say, but she will be forever in our memories and will live on through us.
Marta was a primary school teacher, but before that she taught art classes, was a tour guide at Toronto City Hall, and worked briefly as an airline stewardess. She loved to travel with her family - there were many family vacations, including trips to Eastern Canada, Portugal, Italy and Ukraine. She was a past member of Vesnivka Choir and enjoyed travelling with them on many tours including England, Germany, Austria and Italy. Marta was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She was an avid collector of Ukrainian art and vyshyvani sorochky (embroidered shirts and costumes). She had a passion for interior design; she scoured antique shops to find pieces that she would then repurpose for her home. She recently realized a life-long dream by designing and overseeing the building of their new home. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage on Cawaja beach. Visitation at the TURNER & PORTER Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, from 6-9 pm. Panakhyda/service at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at TURNER & PORTER followed by interment at PROSPECT CEMETERY. The family is collecting for the Help us Help the Children and Open Your Heart charities.
