In Celebration of

Marlene Ritchie

December 10, 1948 -  August 1, 2021

It is with extreme sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the sudden passing of Marlene Ritchie at the Mississauga Trillium Hospital, Sunday August 1st at 6:10am, with her husband John and son Jason at her side.

Marlene was born to parents Milt and Evelyn Brush, (deceased), on December 10th 1948 in Toronto Ontario and was the loving daughter in law of Carl and Hazel Ritchie, (deceased).

Marlene was the cherished, loving wife of 40 years to her soulmate John and leaves behind her children, Jason (Charlene) and Bill. She will be deeply missed by her four grandchildren, Robbie, Courtney, Victoria and Scott, her sisters Dawn Marie (Doug), Wendy (John), Sandy (Harley) and her brother Doug (Sharon). She was predeceased by her brother Ross and sister Sharon and will also be profoundly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and her countless number of friends.

Marlene was a beautiful soul inside and out, always the life of the party and forever generous with her time, wanting to help others at every turn. Her bright, colourful personality stood out everywhere she went and her smile could light up the darkest of rooms. She had a passion for baking and crocheting, and was forever making blankets for friends or family and pies, cakes, tarts, fudge or cookies and was affectionately referred to by some as “The Fudge Lady”.

For over 30 years Marlene spent her summers at the trailer at Shalamar Lake Campground in Niagara Falls with family and friends. Whether suntanning, swimming, walking the park or just sitting having drinks and a laugh by the campfire, she was clearly in her happy place at the trailer. She was the very definition of a hockey mom over the years and always the loudest cheerleader in the arena when her sons both played and later, when her grandson and granddaughter played. Marlene was most proud of her grandchildren with whom she built an unbreakable bond.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 14th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Turner and Porter, Neweduk Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. West, Mississauga Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Due to COVID restrictions, access will be limited. Those wishing to attend please contact Jason Gagne by text or phone at 905-302-6819 or email, jgagnez10@gmail.com

THE DAY GOD TOOK YOU HOME

A million times I’ve needed you, a million times I’ve cried.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died
In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still
It broke my heart to lose you, but you didn’t go alone
Part of me me went with you, the day God took you home.

My deepest condolences to John, Jason, Bill and all of Marlene's family members and friends. Marlene was a great neighbor and friend whom I had the privilege of walking with in the early mornings. Being able to get together to have coffee each morning with her, John and Jenny pretty much on a daily basis was our usual start to the day. Marlene always treated me to her famous baked goods and many recipes that we would exchange between us. She will be forever remembered for her generous heart, love of dogs and many animals. She enjoyed drawing in her coloring books, making beautiful crafty blankets and connected with many friends and family on Facebook. Marlene was true to herself, and gave her opinion if something didn't sit well with her, but at the same token, could make you laugh in the darkest of moments. She loved to joke and get a smile out of you no matter what. Although I didn't get to know her that well until only a few years ago, I feel like I've known her forever. I will miss her dearly. Rest in peace my friend you will always be in my heart.
