In Celebration of

Mark Jaklic

July 25, 1952 -  January 18, 2025

Mark passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 18, 2025, at the age of 72. Faith and family always came first for Mark, as he was a loving husband to Marianne and cherished father to Oliver and Sebastian. They were truly the joys of his life, and he would often beam with pride when speaking about what they meant to him. He was a beloved brother to Josie Laszutko (Henry), Ginny Platt (Steve), Kathy Kastelic (Peter) and Peter Jaklic (Kirsten) and will also be dearly missed by his mother-in-law Frances Malich, and brother-in-law Rob Malich (Christy). Mark will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews: Andrew, Amanda, Mark; Frances (Solomon), Joseph (Katrina), Paul, Noelle (Nicholas), John, Teresa, Raphaela; Christopher (Kathleen), Michael (Leslie), Nicholas (Elizabeth), Matthew, Kaitlyn (George), Thomas; Simon, Grace, Elise, Gabriel; Darius; as well as his grand nieces and nephews: James, Isabelle, Sophie, Dominic, Felicity, Lydia and Joseph. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lydia Jaklic, and his father-in-law John Malich.

A retired high school teacher, Mark was a fixture at Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School in Etobicoke. His passion for teaching math to impressionable young minds in the classroom was matched by his competitive nature on the golf course, where he was a mainstay at the Weston Golf Club. Mark’s love of music was also a big part of his life, as he would often be seen at music venues throughout the city and impress his friends with his knowledge of obscure metal bands. Mark was an original who was not afraid to speak his mind. He had a generosity of spirit and touched the lives of many.

Mark will be greatly missed by his family, friends, former work colleagues, the Slovenian community in Toronto, and the many relatives in Slovenia.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario (Hwy 10 N of QEW) on Sunday January 26 from 4 - 9 pm.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 739 Browns Line, Etobicoke on Monday January 27 at 10 am.

To the Jaklic family.
Getting to know Mark at Weston over the last few years has brought a lot of joy and memories to our lives. He truly was a special person and a great friend. Maryanne and the boys always came first in our conversations and how he loved them so deeply. Mark will be missed by all of us. God bless you Mark and family.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mark’s passing. He was not only an extraordinary educator but also a kind, compassionate friend to all who had the privilege of working with him. His dedication to his students and his unique approach to teaching made a lasting impact on so many. He had an incredible ability to make learning both fun and meaningful, always finding ways to engage his students with enthusiasm and care. He was also someone who stood firm in his beliefs, and we all admired the strength of his convictions. Above all, his deep love for his family and his unwavering faith were the core of who he was.
I will always remember how he brought his love for music into the math classroom, creating an environment where both learning and laughter thrived. His students adored him, and his presence was a gift to everyone who knew him.
My prayers are with the entire Jaklic family during this incredibly difficult time, but his legacy as an exceptional teacher and friend will live on in the hearts of all those, he touched at Don Bosco C.S.S.
With heartfelt sympathy,
M. Rubino (Don Bosco CSS)
