It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Rita on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the age of 92 at Mississauga Hospital. She has been reunited with her loving husband, Ilario.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters Sara (Noe) and Silvia (Renzo) and grandchildren Andrew (Ashley), Christopher, Catherine and Melissa. She will also be missed by her brother Pietro (Emma) and sister Caterina (predeceased Claudio), nieces and nephews, cousins, close friends…both here and in Italy.
She was born in Paese, Treviso, Italy on February 14, 1932 to Raffaele and Angela (Rosa) Nasato. She was the second oldest child of five: Ester (Attilio), Nerino, Pietro (Emma) and Caterina (Claudio). She immigrated to Canada and married her love Ilario in 1956 and started their family with Sara and Silvia. Mom and Dad were proud of the life they built together. They provided us with a strong foundation for how to live our lives. Watching their children and grandchildren grow was their main happiness and joy.
Mom’s pride was first her family and then her home on Randi Road where she and dad lived for over 60 years. She will be remembered by family and friends as a loving and caring person. Their home was filled with love and joy and welcomed many family and friends throughout the years.
Mom enjoyed spending time at the church, volunteering her time by helping with numerous festivals and dances (where she loved working in the kitchen), bake and craft sales, bazaars and bible study. She loved to knit, crochet and sew (a talent she taught both her daughters to enjoy as well), having coffee (always in a teacup, never a mug!) with friends and family. She loved to cook, always learning new recipes and tweaking them to please her family.
On summer nights, you could find her sitting on her lawn chair on the front verandah “watching the world go by” with dad and talking to their long-time neighbours and friends Pina and Fernando (who is making the coffee tonight?) . People can also remember seeing her in one of the front pews at St. Catherine of Siena Church for mass.
Many thanks to Mom’s doctors and nurses who looked after her during the last month at Trillium Hospital - Mississauga. Special thanks to all the Care Managers, nurses, PSWs and staff at Villa Forum Long Term Care Residence for their unforgettable support and for looking after Mom with incredible compassion and understanding for the last two years. You are truly the best!
Mom, your work here on earth is done. Continue to watch over us like you always have. You will be forever missed but never forgotten. Love you always. Rest in peace.
