In Celebration of

Mario Olivieri

February 25, 1940 -  September 21, 2020

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mario Olivieri, at the age of 80, at Trillium Hospital, on Monday, September 21, 2020.

Beloved Husband of Filomena for 53 years, Mario leaves behind and will be dearly missed by his children, son Sandro and wife Pamela, son Vince and wife Melissa, and son Joe and wife Danielle. Also by his cherished grandchildren Sabrina, Sierra, Adam, Enzo, Lucas, and Carmela.

Born in the small town of St. Iona, Italy, in 1940, to a family of 7 children in total (4 brothers and 2 sisters), Mario spent most of his time growing up in Italy and some time in Australia. He later returned to Italy where he met Filomena. They were married in 1967 in Italy, and in 1971, they made the decision to move to Canada, and settled into Mississauga, with their 2 sons at the time and started a new life there. Not long after, they welcomed their 3rd son. Mario and Filomena worked constantly to provide a loving home and wonderful life for their family in Canada.

Mario had the bluest of eyes and a heart of gold. With only a phone call he was willing to help anyone who needed it. He liked working with his hands and was talented in many trades. He was a member of the Celano Canadian Club and was proud of his Italian heritage. He loved playing cards and bocce with his paisanos at the club on Friday nights and enjoyed tremendously tending to his beautiful vegetable garden.

As his family grew larger, it was abundantly clear his most cherished times were Sunday family lunches, seeing all his kids and grandchildren around the table together, always asking about anyone who was not able to make it. Mario was a true family man.

Mario lived life and enjoyed sharing stories about his time growing up in Italy, and Australia, and his new life in Canada, but especially loved talking about his family.

May he Rest in Peace and always be remembered for the love and happiness he brought to all our lives. We love you. Absent from body, present with the Lord.

Due to current limitations presented by Covid 19, there will be a private funeral service.

The Olivieri family deeply appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

On behalf of the members of The Celano Canadian Club, we offer our sincerest condolences to the entire family. Mario was an active member of our club and his support over the years was both admired and appreciated. We know that health issues kept him from coming lately, but we also know that The Celano Canadian Club was one of his favourite places to meet up with friends and have a game of cards. We will miss seeing you Mario. May you rest in eternal peace.
