In Celebration of

Marie Stella Clara (née Quesnelle) Cunningham

December 21, 1933 -  May 4, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Marie (formerly Villeneuve) Cunningham. She passed peacefully at home after a long series of recent illnesses, at the age of 91.

Marie touched the lives of so many as her love and kindness were shared with everyone in her sphere and beyond. She stood as an example of what it is to be truly good. She was generous, thoughtful, compassionate and always empathetic to those less fortunate.

She will be sadly missed by her deeply loving husband, Ralph, her 3 surviving children, André, Richard (Erik), Nicole (Alan), her 6 grandchildren (Sara, Erica, Jacqueline, Jean-Pierre, Madeleine and Zacharie) and her 7 great-grandchildren (Katie, Elizabeth, Michael, Jasper, Clementine, Sterling and Marie). She was loved and she loved tremendously.

Marie was born in the Perkinsfield, Ontario area to Aurore (Robitaille) and Honoré Quesnelle. She was the 7th of their 10 children and the last to pass amongst all her wonderful siblings.

She studied at the Teacher's College of Ottawa and went on to teach both in her home town and in Toronto until her retirement. Teaching was a natural fit for Marie, as her maternal and gentle nature bonded her to all her students. Cooking for others was part of Marie’s language of love. Food and entertaining were her passions and she shared these with all those who entered her home. Marie’s maternal love extended beyond her own children, and her family mourns with all those who had the blessing of knowing her warm and comforting love. She is now reunited with her first-born son, Michel (Mike-deceased 2017).

Family and friends are invited for visitation at Turner & Porter - Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario, Mississauga on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Dear Nicole, Richard, André, Ralph: You & your families are in my thoughts and prayers. Marie was such an inspiration to me as both a mom and an educator. Her glass was never half full... it was always full to the brim!! I will never forget her resilience, kindness and humour. xoxoK

I know Marie as Madame Villeneuve. I was lucky enough to speak with her several months ago to share my appreciation of her, helping me to learn French, which seemed impossible. She never gave up, even though I was a significant pain to her. ;) I consider myself lucky to have been taught by Madame. To Ralph and her kids and grandkids please accept my condolences. David.
