In Celebration of

Marie Madeline Steer

May 25, 1926 -  May 12, 2018

Passed away peacefully at her residence in Toronto on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late John George Steer. Loving mother of Janet Merklinger (Norm Clark), John, Jim (Sue), and Jane (Brooke Thackray). Cherished grandma of Jeff, Brian, David (Amanda) Merklinger and Justin, Megan, Carly and Madeleine Thackray. Much loved great-grandma of Abigayle, Liam and Evelyn Merklinger. She will be greatly missed by all her extended family and friends. Marie was born in Windsor and was one of six children. She married her childhood sweetheart and together they raised four children. Marie moved to Toronto with her family in 1974 and quickly made many friends through her quilting group and bowling clubs. She was known for her love of cooking and baking, especially her garlic bread and apple pie. Her garden was a constant source of joy for her and she was always puttering around her roses and clematis, both at her Toronto home and her home in Boca Raton. Marie had a sense of humour like no other and her laugh was infectious. Her grandchildren were taught how to play cards at a young age and were worthy opponents to her competitive nature whether it be a simple game of gin or hand and foot. She had a large group of close friends in Windsor with whom she kept in contact throughout her life. We know that she has finally been reunited with her husband Jack, and is at peace. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel at 4933 Dundas St. W., (between Kipling & Islington Aves.) Etobicoke on Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 1415 Royal York Rd., on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Dear Sue and Jim:
My sincere sympathy on the passing of your mother and mother in law. No matter their age it is always difficult to say good bye. I will keep Marie in my prayers.

Paul and I are so sorry for your loss. Thank you Janet for bringing your Mom to see the house she grew up in on Marentette in Windsor last Summer. Paul's Mom talked about Aunt Marie over the years. I could not get over how much she looked like Paul's Dad. I was glad to finally meet her. Just think of all the good times you had with her. I know she was a Special Lady. Prayers and hugs to the Family at this time.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers..........................Pam and Paul
