In Celebration of

Maria da Conceicao Luz Cabral

March 13, 1944 -  February 18, 2021

It is with profound sadness, that we announce the passing of Maria da Conceicao Luz Cabral, age 76, of Mississauga, ON. Deeply loved by her husband and family, Maria Cabral passed away peacefully, after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer`s Disease, surrounded by family members in the evening of February 18, 2021.

Maria will be dearly missed by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Joao Freitas Cabral, Mississauga, ON; children Jean Sterken (Jan Sterken), Burlington, ON; Nelson Cabral (Karen Sears), Westcock, NB, and Steven Cabral (Lorie Cabral), Milton, ON; six grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary, Joseph, Jasmine, Julia, and Finnian; brother Antonio Luz (Aurelia Luz), Thornhill, ON; brother Jose Ernesto Luz (Merita Luz), Thornhill, ON and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Jose Da Luz and Maria Da Luz.

Born on the island of Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, Maria and her husband John built a life based on family and love. Maria & John enjoyed celebrating their heritage, attending Portuguese festivals with friends and family - to eat, dance, and take in the music, culture, and delights from ‘the old country’. They enjoyed many vacations, especially to Madeira, walking hand in hand along beautiful beaches. But mostly, Maria relished being home cooking and baking (mostly traditional Portuguese dishes) and faithfully watching soap operas & game shows. Always humming, she loved listening and dancing to the music of Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, and traditional Portuguese music / Fado.

Maria will be remembered fondly as a loyal, deeply loving and selfless woman who was always smiling and always doing her best to make everyone comfortable and happy.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Turner & Porter Funeral Homes, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON (905-279-7663) where a private family service will be held due to COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to The Alzheimer Society of Canada in her honour.
