In Celebration of

Maria Vittoria (nee Carcone) Treglia

February 15, 1922 -  September 15, 2019

On Sunday, September 15, 2019, in her 98 th year, Maria Vittoria Treglia, known to many
who loved her as “Nonna”, passed away peacefully at home - surrounded by her family.
Maria was born on February 14, 1922 in Tufo di Minturno, Italy.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Treglia, her parents Attilio and
Maria Grazia Carcone, and her brothers (Ernesto and Franco) and sisters (Petronilla
and Adalgisa).

She was a loving mother to her sons Angelo (Molly) and Attilio (Yvonne) and devoted
Nonna to grandchildren, Angela (Jackie), Mary-Clare, Megan and Anthony. She was
adopted “Nonna” by many, especially the Larin family, and cherished Zia.

Maria immigrated to Canada, with her dear cousin Petronilla Mazzucco in 1951. After
ten days on the ocean, she arrived on December 7 th at Pier 21 in Halifax. She boarded a
train and eventually landed in Ontario - where she began a new chapter of her life. Soon
thereafter, she married and started her family. She worked hard, regularly hosted
visitors and was fortunate to be able to retire early and spend some time travelling.
After the loss of her husband, she continued to live a fulfilled and independent life for
over 30 years: helping raise her grandchildren, knitting, gardening, visiting and
conversing with family, friends and neighbours.

Nonna taught us the true meaning of what it means to experience love, joy and the
value of family. Nonna was extremely generous. She had an incredible ability to light up
a room, make people smile and she created memories that will last throughout the
ages. Her many stories both entertained and informed. Her infectious spirit touched all
who knew her.

Ti amo Nonna.

Nona was always such a fun face to see at all the family parties. She always seemed to be in good spirits and really knew how to cook the best pizza. Her family loved her so much and she will be greatly missed by many.
