In Celebration of

Maria (Majda) Krampelj (nee Seliskar)

December 12, 1945 -  September 10, 2024

Maria (Majda) Krampelj (nee Seliskar), beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, passed away on September 10, 2024, at Trillium Hospital, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Maria was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Jozef. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for gardening and community.

She is survived by 2 devoted sons, Andrew and Michael, who, with unwavering commitment, cared for her throughout her journey. Their support and love were a testament to the strong family bonds that Maria nurtured throughout her life.

Maria is also survived by her siblings: Jernej (Mary Casar), Rudy (Linda Oliver, deceased), Margaret (Lorne Markowitz) and Emily, along with their families, who were an integral part of her life. Her memory will also live on among many members of Jozef’s family, both in Mississauga, and Slovenia, who will miss her dearly.
Maria’s kindness, strength and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her enduring spirit, her love for her family, and her remarkable courage.

A special thank you to the team of nurses and PSWs who helped her sons look after Maria at home, and to Dr. Gupta for all her care and kindness.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and legacy. Friends may call at Turner & Porter “Peel Chapel”, 2180 Hurontario St. (HWY 10 N. of Q.E.W.) on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11 am. Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, where Maria and Jozef will both be interred.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Mississauga Food Bank, or Trillium Health Partners Foundation in Maria’s honour, continuing her spirit of giving and kindness.

Maria’s legacy of love and resilience will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever. She will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered.

Teta Majda was profoundly generous in all that she gave to everyone she loved. 💐

I’ll always recall how her baked goods were like a never ending parade of cookies (packed in massive tupperwares) and cakes exiting out of the Krampelj’s trunk when they would spend Christmases in Montreal. That orange cranberry cheesecake was something. Or how we’d be spoiled to the best breakfasts and meals on the Slovenian farm when we all camped in tents in the early nineties, cause _she_ was our unofficial family food caterer. Cevapčice seasoned so deliciously. This image is from the evening she organized all the cookies she’d made in advance of Katie & Mark’s wedding (I dare you to count how many kinds there were). I still remember how we had so many cookies at Rose & Steph’s wedding, that we placed the platters on each table, and it became the unofficial edible center piece. Even danced with one on my head. Somehow the concept of one person baking nearly a dozen kind of cookies was normalized. While she was serious in measuring everything with precision exactly as it was instructed on a recipe (literally using a knife even off a table spoon as an _exact_ table spoon), she never once quantified how much she gave. She simply showered us, without limit, with her bounty baked goods, and meals. That’s the way she communicated her love. It’s truly something special, and what I’ll always remember her for.

Heaven is definitely more delicious now that she’s there. 🤍
