In Celebration of

Maria Polonio

November 6, 1930 -  December 17, 2022

Ernesto came to take Maria (Furlan) Polonio (1930) to her eternal home to be with him. They have been apart for the last 10 yrs. this Jan. She came to this country on a dream of a better life from Italy in 1952. She was the last original person of Eaglewood, Troy and Angeline. She lived on the same street for 72yrs., moved three times but still the same street. Her children are Gabriela Churchward and Paul, Sue Gait and Gerry, last but not least, the apple of her eye Mark Polonio. She was blessed with four grandchildren. Mike Gait, Natalie Gait, Andrew Churchward, Amanda Drodge. Plus, Maria has 4 great grandchildren, Damion, Carley, Grace, and Peyton. Her last living brother is Aldo Furlan and wife Anna who reside in Italy. Maria was very fortunate to have such great neighbors. We would like to thank everyone who helped our mother over the years and at the time of ill health. For those who wish donations in Maria's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel at 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga. (Hwy. 10 N. of QEW) on Thursday December 23, 2022 from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral Prayers will be on Friday Dec 23 at 9 a.m. Interment Springcreek Cemetery.

Mom was special, full of life, energetic, independent and a wicked sense of humour. Rest easy Mom and I know you will be the life of the party on the other side.

We are here to celebrate the life of Maria who was a Courageous, Strong, Stubborn women.
We’ll start with Courage. That’s what you’d have to have to get on an ocean liner and travel the distance from Italy to Novia Scotia with a 18 month old in tow. Her husband came before her and bought a house and told her it was so beautiful. When she arrived at the house on Eaglewood Blvd it had a porch with windows across the front. Maria thought she was moving into a green house. Maria said she cried and wanted to go back to Italy.
She shared this house with another family that had one child. So here you have 2 couples with one child each. Then came along another 2 kids. One to each of the families. Her family was growing so they moved across the street. Well then, her son came, and the 2nd house was getting small, so she moved again. She lived in #83 Eaglewood Blvd. for the rest of her life. Over 60 yrs. Maria lived on Eaglewood Blvd for 72 yrs and was the last original person of Eaglewood Blvd, Troy St and Angeline
Next comes Strong, Maria prided herself to do anything a man could do and do it just as good. She could fix anything that was broken. If you went into the basement, Maria had her own workshop like Santa’s, as her grandson told someone once. She had many hospital visits over the years and was strong enough to overcome them all, while recovering and raising 3 kids.
We’ll finish with stubbornness. We could say that Maria had to be stubborn to get through life and all it had to offer her. As she got older, she mellowed and wasn’t so stubborn. But with the illness that took her from us she kept saying she was not giving up and she was going to get better. She would sit and say, “did you ever think this would happen to me?” Never did I think I would come to this. She fought a great fight right till the end.
God had other plans for Maria, he knew how much she missed Ernesto and was ready to be with him. It was 10 yrs this Jan that Ernesto was taken to his eternal rest, and she said she was lonely. Maria may God bless you and enjoy your eternal rest with Ernesto and all your family and friends that went before you. You will be missed.
