In Celebration of

Maria Alice Avila

May 8, 1928 -  November 17, 2020

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Maria Alice Avila on November 17th, 2020 at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga at age 92. She was born on May 8, 1928 in Terceira, Azores to Maria do Carmo da Silva and Antonio Joaquim da Silva. She is the oldest of 4 children. She married her loving husband, Antonio Avila. In hopes of a better life, they immigrated to Canada with their 3 youngest children in the 1950's. They completed their family in the 1960's with the birth of 2 more children.

Alice was a devoted wife to her husband who adored her, he preceded her in death in 2003.

She was a loving mother to her children, Alyce (Manuel), Antoinette (Frank), Tony (Cheryl), David (Lurdes) and Aida (Paul). She was so very proud of her 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was sister to Carlos Alberto, Fatima and Jose.

Maria Alice was a cook but her passion was baking. She made the most delicious breads, cakes and biscuits.

She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Trillium Hospital for their compassion and care.

Due to the current pandemic a private viewing and Funeral Mass will be held for family only.

We will miss our Mom very much. She will always live in our hearts.

Alice was beautiful and kind person. She had the most beautiful smile. We shared many laughs together, she was a loving mother to all her children. She welcomed me to the family with open arms. It was a joy to see her and receive her warm embrace. I will dearly miss her, but now she is with her husband Anthony in heaven, keeping a watchful eye on us. Miss you dearly.

I will always remember my Mom as when I saw her in my youth. A beautiful , elegantly groomed young raven haired woman . She raised us with expectations of high domestic and social standards . She mellowed in her autumn years and my sisters and I had many a laugh when we were around her.
I love you and will miss you Mom. Your grandchildren will also miss you .
I know that you will be very happy when you are united with our beloved dad .

My mother developed a great sense of humour in her later years! She loved it when I told a joke, or started dancing on my own! We loved to go shopping together, mom loved nice clothes and good perfumes. She was very affectionate and thankful for anything I did for her.
She loved her son in law and her grandchildren, and worried about their safety and well being!
Thank you mother for teaching me good values. Please give dad a hug from me, and watch over us from heaven.
I will miss you and love you forever!
