Beloved wife of Manuel Matos, died peacefully on October 25, 2023 at age 91 at Westbury Long Term Care.

Maria Alda was born on May 18, 1932 in Madeira, Portugal, daughter of the late Manuel de Freitas and Maria Nobrega.

She immigrated to Canada with Manuel and her three sons in 1967. She was a devoted mother and worked primarily as a seamstress. She volunteered for many years in various capacities at Canadian Madeira Club. In addition to her husband, Manuel, Maria Alda leaves behind her three sons, Manuel Joao (Mina), Joe (Lucy) and Alfred as well as her grandchildren Lori (Matthew), Amanda (Barrie), Andrea (Sean) and Jason (Victoria) and her two great grand children Mackenzie and Olivia, and her brother Joao Freitas (Teresa).

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Monday, October 30 from 5-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Tuesday, October 31, at 11 a.m. Entombment to follow at Park Lawn Mausoleum.
