In Celebration of

Margarete Schneider

March 8, 1931 -  May 5, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Margarete Schneider on May 5, 2024 at the age of 93. Beloved wife of Wilfried for almost 72 years. Loving mother of Karen (Mark Baistrocchi) and Ralph (Amber). Proud Oma to Adam (Jessica), Matthew (Meagan), and Lauren (James) Baistrocchi, Shaun (Vivian) and Bonnie. So excited about her first great-grandchild on the way!

Survived by her twin sister Johanna in Germany. Predeceased by her 8 sisters. Margarete will be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada and Germany

At 17 years of age and looking for a better life, Margarete escaped from East Germany. In November 1949 in a park in Hamm, West Germany she met Wilfried and then in 1952 immigrated to Toronto, Canada.

They built a wonderful life in Canada with the best times at the cottage on Three Mile Lake. In her retirement years she also enjoyed wintering in Florida and travelling the world. Margarete liked to learn new things. She learned some accounting on a computer at 60, took up golfing at 80, and began texting at 90. She was a talented knitter and avid gardener, and still played a mean game of scrabble.

Known for her devotion to her family and an immaculate house, she was loved by everyone who knew her. She was an incredibly strong woman that will always hold a special place in our hearts.

A special thank you to the caring staff and residents at Amica City Center. Margarete enjoyed the past two years in her new home immensely.

Friends may call at Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga, on Tuesday May 14, 2024 from 3-6pm. Cremation to take place and a private family memorial will be held at a future date.

As an expression of sympathy, please take the time to learn about and understand dementia. www.alz.org

In lieu of flowers and in honour of Margarete, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Today, we gather to mourn but also to celebrate the remarkable life of a truly wonderful woman. Oma was not just a grandmother but a guiding light and a source of unconditional love and wisdom for all who were fortunate to know her. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and resilience will forever live in our hearts and memories. We are grateful for the moments shared, the lessons learned, and the love she so generously gave. May we continue to honor her memory by embodying the virtues she exemplified in her lifetime.
