In Celebration of

Margaret Robb

October 21, 1935 -  May 24, 2019

MARGARET ELIZABETH ROBB (nee LIGHTBODY)

The Robb family is sad to announce the death of Marg Robb, beloved wife of Gordon for the last 60 years; mother extraordinaire to her three daughters, Cathy (Rob Paterson), Sue (Paul Riedlinger), and Janet (Neil Craik); and nana to Annie, C.J., Lauren, Meg, Nick, Sarah and Will. She was the older sister to Robert Lightbody (deceased), sister-in-law to Margie and aunt to Deborah (Sandy Keay) and Tamara (Rick Murdock). Marg lived life fully and valiantly with a grace and determination. She unceasingly gave her time and energy to her family and many friends. Marg was an exceptional hostess, organizing countless events to bring people together, whether at her long time home on St George’s Road in Etobicoke, at the cottage on Monck Lake or the ski chalet in the Beaver Valley.
Her generosity as a dedicated volunteer and her passion to give back to the community was incredible, assisting Kingsway Lambton United Church’s - flea market, junior and youth choirs, seniors’ home; the Toronto Children’s Chorus; and the Girl Guides. She was an extreme world traveler, passionate gardener, a keen tennis player, golfer and skier (and occasional snowboarder!).
She was an intellectual woman, who spent a lifetime in pursuit of knowledge. After graduating from the University of Toronto (1956 OT/PT), she engaged in a long and successful career practicing both occupational and physiotherapy. She never shied away from continuing education and inspired many through her studies of gourmet cooking, history, and design. Marg valued education and she was especially proud that all her children, nieces and grandchildren obtained post-secondary degrees.
She was never idle and was always creating something- in her garden, knitting or making one of her famous quilts. If that was not enough, she was an avid reader, and solver of cryptic crosswords. She will also be missed at many bridge tables.
She was selfless, confident and a genuine woman whose foremost goal was to see others succeed. She rejoiced in the well-being of others and celebrated life.

Dear Gord and family
My sympathy for your loss of wife, mother, and grandmother. Margaret was a great companion for golf, outings of all kinds, and especially for our gourmet dinners. She was a wonderful conversationalist, always ready to recommend books to read, places to visit, and restaurants to try. I will really miss her. Primrose

I shared with many great admiration for Marg and enjoyed her company. She was always so lovely to me. I received a delightful engagement party at her home. and I was always made welcome with a delicious meal and a cosy bed on my sojourns back to Canada. I was frequently picked up and dropped off at the airport. My children were welcolmed by Marg and her family too. Gord was an exceptional host always and I have been spoiled by Susie and Paul who hosted family dinners so I could catch up with everyone. Their generosity has been special. It has always been a treat to catch up with Cathy and especially when we ran into each other at Whistler when she and Rob were on their honeymoon. Recently I had the great pleasure of spending time with Janet and Neil when they visited Sydney. Janet shared news from the Homeland and I was an ardent listener. My thanks to all of you for including me in your families. Much love, Gwenny and family
