We are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Doreen Vesik at the age of 95. Margaret was the beloved daughter of Albert and Amber Barr. She was a loving mother to Christine and Warren (Keiko) and a devoted grandmother to Andrew, Diana, Kayla and Owen. She is pre-deceased by her 3 older brothers, Albert (Marion), Gordon (Helen) and John (Betty). She is loved by her many nieces and nephews and their families.
Margaret was born and grew up in Riverdale, in Toronto. She attended Eastern Commerce High School and became a secretary; a job she held until her daughter was born. Later, she worked part-time as a salesperson at Eaton’s. She spent most of her life in Mississauga, but also lived briefly in Edmonton, AB and Vancouver, BC.
Margaret was a great family person and was very involved in the lives of her children. She had a wonderful sense of style and fashion in both clothing and home decor. She loved entertaining, skating, all types of music and live theatre, was an avid knitter, cross stitcher and baker, particularly of pies and fancy Christmas cookies! She kept a running reading list of books from the library and would devour the daily newspaper. A special place in her heart was reserved for dogs, especially Shetland Sheepdogs of which she owned several over the years. A sporty red car was her favorite mode of transportation.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her for her positive attitude, spirit and humour.
Margaret’s ashes will be interred with her parents at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in a private family ceremony. A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. James United Church, 400 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Etobicoke on Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 p.m.
We would like to issue a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Parkland on Eglinton West for the loving care she received there in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Scott Mission, the Alzheimer's Society or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, all charities that she supported.
