March 19, 2024
BROWN, MARGARET CONSTANCE (nee FARLEY). Passed away peacefully in Mississauga, Ontario on March 19th, 2024, at the age of 96 years. She joins her beloved husband Donald Richard Brown. Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a great lady, and quite a remarkable woman. She was born to Albert John Farley and Janet Dewar Martin on June 27th, 1927, in Montreal, Quebec. She grew up in Outremont where she graduated high school, and later went on to work for the Bell Telephone Company at their Dominion Square headquarters in downtown Montreal. Margaret met Donald after the Second World War, and they were happily married for 36 years until Donald passed away at a young age in 1983; they had two children together. Margaret never remarried, and instead devoted her life to her children and family. After her children left home, Margaret went to university where earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Concordia, and then worked for the Quebec Young Farmer’s Association at the MacDonald College of McGill University. To everyone Margaret was always gracious, kind and engaging. She was a voracious reader, crossword puzzle devotee, and a wizard at bridge where she played regularly with the Seniors group in Georgetown. She travelled extensively in Europe, and was an accomplished watercolor artist and particularly enjoyed this pursuit in her years at the Credit River Retirement Residence. Nothing gave her more joy than to have the family share time together, especially at the traditional seasonal festivities. Margaret enjoyed a long, healthy and interesting life, and she will remain an inspiration to everyone that knew her. Margaret will be sorely missed by her children Richard Brown and his wife Gail Barber, Meredith (Brown) Haldane and her husband Neil. Also by her grandchildren Jessica Haldane and her husband Graham Young, Chloe Haldane and her husband Josh MacIntyre. And by her great-grandchildren Quinn and Cameron Young. A private family celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at a future date at Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal, Quebec. Margaret was a long-time supporter of public charities, especially those related to women’s health. Should you wish to honour Margaret with a donation, please send your contribution to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
