In Celebration of

Margaret Ann (née Garvey) Bolland

August 28, 1934 -  April 8, 2025

Margaret Ann Bolland (née Garvey) passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2025, comforted by her unwavering faith and the care of her children and grandchildren.

Born August 28, 1934, to Joseph and Marie Garvey, she was the third of four children. She is predeceased by her sister Mary Agnes (Murphy) and her brother Michael. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Joan (Macdonald) Regan.

Margaret led an active and fulfilling life. In her youth, she was an avid figure skater and played basketball for St. Joseph's High School. Her passion for sports continued throughout her life with a love for tennis and golf.

She graduated from St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Peter Bolland, the day after he graduated from medical school in 1957. Together they built a remarkable life rooted in love, service and family. True to their desire to have as many children as they could afford, Margaret and Peter raised ten children and later adopted two more. Margaret worked alongside Peter in their home-based medical practice until her retirement at 80.

Summers were spent at the cherished family farm on Lake Huron where she had spent her own childhood summers. She passed on the love of farm life, the beach and the value of hard work to her children. Winters were filled with family activities and ferrying children to their many events.

Margaret and Peter were humble and grateful, deeply proud of their children and the life they built together. She was active in the community serving on St. Joseph’s Hospital’s board, working at the Mississauga Food Bank, volunteering with the St. Christopher’s CWL and more. She maintained many cherished friendships, especially with her bridge club, whose laughter and companionship brought her great joy.

Margaret is survived by her husband Peter and is loved by her 12 devoted children, 37 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; children: Patrick (Christine), Anne Marie (Cameron McWilliam), Margie (Chuck Doherty), Peter (Shirleyanne), Paul (Jack Kent), Bill (Lori), Tom (Annie), Dan (Monica), Mary Fran (Tom Knapp), Bob, Sarah (Shane) and Richard; grandchildren: Blaise (Jackie), Jack (Gabrielle), Kalyn, Mary Michelle (Ian), Abigail, Morgan (Jessica), Whitney (deceased), Molly, Malcolm (Shivani), Sean (Sylvia), Kristin (Mike), Maggie (Rob), Bridget (Brandon), Dillon, Erin (Jeff), Peter (Michelle), Joe (Cassie), Brendan (Holly), Lauryanne (Zach), Samantha (Graham), Caroline (Scott), James (Lauryn), Jean-Matthieu (Tori), Nate, Cas, Rachel, Reese, Garvey, Leo, Marika, Greta, Grace, Frank, Eddie, Aidan, Tristan, Gabriella; great-grandchildren: Harvey, Hadlee, Hendrik, Rocket, Liam, James, Grace M, Owen, Fynn, Hannah, Liam, Hudson, Nolan, Boden, Emma, Ethan, Ella Anne, Makayla, Tyler, Dylan, Peter, Brooks, Scarlett, Drake, Peyton, Beau, Isla, Sophie, and Holden.

A blessing hangs on the wall at the farm - one she’d want to share:
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Peter, Mary Fran and the entire family,
Please accept my sincere condolences. Mary Fran, we just spoke of your mom during my visit, as it turns out, the day she passed. I am so deeply sorry for your loss, and will always remember your mother fondly......even though she jabbed me once a week with allergy shots for years!

Rest in peace Mrs. Bolland❤
