In Celebration of
Margaret Ann Legg (nee Carrothers)
August 29, 1945 -
February 19, 2024
Margaret (Marg) passed away peacefully with her loving husband Brad of 52 years, and her son Bruce by her side. Marg will be greatly missed by Brad, Bruce (Madeleine), and her grandchildren Elisabeth and Anders, who she adored above all else. She will also be sorely missed by an extended family of relatives, friends, neighbours, and former coworkers, who she kept close to her heart and dedicated much of her time staying connected with.
Before being declared “Camp Director” of the family, Marg worked as a teacher in Toronto, followed by taking on the position as Activities Coordinator for the City of Etobicoke. After her retirement, she kept busy volunteering at St. Joseph’s Health Centre for over 20 years. Marg had a deep commitment to serving her community and held positions on a number of Board of Directors, where she felt she could have a positive impact.
Marg cultivated lifelong friendships that were trusting and meaningful, often taking on the role of confidant and advisor. You can say she listened well. Once done listening, she would give you her thoughts - the good, the bad, and the ugly. It might not be what you wanted to hear, but it was what she thought you needed to hear. Marg cared for the people around her and always wanted the best for them. Her friendships spanned all the places that mapped her life’s journey; Pioneer Camp, her home on Woodway Trail, The Boulevard Club, various hockey organizations and sports teams, Royal Alex Theater, workplaces, volunteer organizations and of course Bigwin Island, where she found so much enjoyment over the last 50+ years.
Marg was the consummate hostess; her door was always open, as was her heart. Her laugh would fill the room and her quick wit and fabulous sense of humour would have everyone laughing too. She had an infectious optimism, she could find the positive in every situation, even when she had her own doubts. She had an amazing energy that kept her busy and active. You could often find her playing a variety of sports; hockey, curling, sailing, water and snow skiing, snowmobiling, bowling, and the latest obsession - golf.
Her father, who was an avid golfer, had tried to pass the love of the game on to her at a young age, but she refused. “It’s too slow”, “I’m not old enough”, were her excuses. It was not until she started playing later in life that she realized that she had missed out on learning from her father.
“Camp Director” Marg had a can-do attitude and was always willing to give it a go. She would say, “let me get a mental picture of how this is supposed to go”, then off she went. The mental picture and the final product didn’t always match, but none the less, she always rose to the challenge.
To keep her mind sharp, she read books, would do the daily crossword and sudoku, before moving on to Wordle. She loved to play cards and played a mean game of Old Maid and Go Fish, before graduating her grandchildren to Euchre. Mahjong was a more recent endeavour that she was still trying to master. Marg was an avid supporter of the theatre and regularly attended the Royal Alex, where of course, she made friends with the other theatregoers in the seats around her.
Marg and Brad enjoyed travelling together, mostly to warmer climates. Favourite destinations included Grand Cayman, Bonaire, Aruba, and southern United States. Their adventure of a lifetime took them to Egypt and Israel, which they found fascinating.
Marg’s indelible spirit will live on in those she touched. Please remember her for the vibrant person she was and cherish the fond memories that you have of her.
Arrangements were made by Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life at a future date.
