In Celebration of

Gail McGilvery

February 12, 1934 -  November 1, 2020

On Sunday November 1, 2020, with her family at her side, Gail McGilvery (86) slipped away peacefully. We will miss her delightful smiles and unconditional love, but take joy in knowing she has entered into God’s presence to be reunited with her husband, Robert, who had passed away just 7 days prior. Gail and Bob had been faithfully married for 64 years.

Loving Mother of Margaret (David) Shanahan, Alex McGilvery, William (Marie) McGilvery, and Cheryl (Rick) Lang. Proud grandfather of Elliott, Gordon, Kelly, Douglas(pre-deceased), Nicholas, Brandon, and Leanne. Great grandfather of Carson and the twins- Chase and Caleb. Cousin to Karen Ireland.

Gail was a high school teacher before staying home to raise her 4 children. She then volunteered as a translator of high school text books into Braille for over 30 years. Later in life she volunteered to teach Adult English Literacy for the Peel Board of Education. Gail also loved the outdoors. She loved camping, canoeing, sailing, and hanging out at the cottage with her family and friends.

Everywhere she went she brought her knitting, making many blankets, sweaters and other clothing for her children and grandchildren. Then Gail began to create self-design sweaters donated through her church to various charities.

The family is sincerely thankful for the care Gail received at Tansley Woods Retirement Home. Donations to Sleeping Children Around the World in memory of Gail would be gladly accepted. http://www.scaw.org/donations-home

I will always remember Gayle welcoming me to sit and chat. She had many stories to share with me. Rest now Gayle and know that you are with everyone whose lives you touched in such beautiful ways

Gail put in good innings. It seems so appropriate that Gail died right after Bob.
Laureen and I send our condolences to family - (Alex is the one I most remember) on the loss of both Bob and Gail. They were both good people - strong Christians and very thoughtful of each other - 64 years married is quite an accomplishment!
RIP Bob and Gail

We were neighbours on the Kingsway. She was the first to make me feel welcome to the community and got me to join Saint Luke United Church. She was very kind and
we enjoyed regular morning coffee breaks I am very sorry to hear of her passing and I’m sure she will be greatly missed by all the family

Although we met just a few times I loved Gail very much. We shared a sense of humour and our thoughts were similar, A drive from Mississauga to visit Bob's twin in Winnipeg was an unforgettable experience and joy. . Gail made a beautiful smocked dress for my first granddaughter Hannah McGilvery who was born in 1995- The year Bob's youngest Brother Harry died and Both came to visit which was another greatly appreciated time as Gail had a difficult health problem. Rest in peace Gail.
